I have a 40X IDE CD-ROM drive in my station PC ...

Q Dave, WB2AZE, asks, “I have a 40X IDE CD-ROM drive in my station PC. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade to one of the new DVD drives?”

A Not really. Unless you want to purchase or rent DVD movies to watch when the bands are dead, there are no DVD ham applications at the present time. Beyond the price tag, installing a DVD drive in your machine requires a decoder board that will occupy yet another precious motherboard bus slot.
