‘crossband split.’ Does this mean ...

Q Tom, KC8EGD, asks, “I have an ICOM IC-706 MK II and the manual says it does ‘crossband split.’ Does this mean that you can transmit on one frequency and receive on another, or does it mean that you can work crossband duplex (transmitting on one band while simultaneously receiving on another)?”

ACrossband split simply means that you can receive on one band and transmit on another—not necessarily simultaneously simultaneously. To do so would be “crossband full duplex” or “crossband repeat” and the IC-706 does not have that capability.
